31st May

Additional lessons

We have a range of live lessons available for Year 3-6 bookable through the booking page.  These are £5 per lesson.

Childcare vouchers

We are now able to accept these for any aspect of ELC provision.  Please email admin@elctutoring.co.uk if you would like to use these.  We would need to know the provider of the vouchers so that we can set up the relevant account.

Mock tests

These run fortnightly.  Each mock test will be written as new for the exam.

Free resources

We have extended the provision that we initially provided pre-Covid to include:-

  • a free booster lesson every Wednesday at 10am (available for those students who have attended a lesson during the week)

  • a free daily booster pack (comprehension, speed maths, word maths, vocabulary builders

Where possible, please encourage your children to make full use of these resources to help minimise any gaps created with the closure of schools.

We have continued to provide free Upton/St. Anselm's lessons on Saturday for students who have attended an 11+ lesson during the week.

Credits

If a lesson does not run due to technology issues or is missed through illness or simply forgetting, we will replace this with a credit that can be used against other lessons.  In these instances please book the replacement lesson using 'PAY IN PERSON' and add the reference for the lesson that this is replacing.

Virtual School

This runs daily with a live assembly at 8.30-9.30am, live art lessons twice a week and a range of lessons throughout the day.  The day then concludes at 2pm with another assembly.

This provision is priced at £10 per week and childcare vouchers can be used for this.

Mock Exam 21st June

Average score was 68%  We would suggest a score of 72% would be a good indicator of success in the final exam.

Maths: 20

Verbal: 34

Non-verbal: 14

Review of scores:

Verbal Reasoning

Overall the verbal reasoning scores are becoming a strength for many pupils.  Once a technique is mastered, pupils can guarantee significant amounts of marks.  The free boosters on a Wednesday will often focus on this and it is always a feature in weekly 11+ tutoring lessons.

Maths

is now set at a full GL assessment level.  We stress to all students the need to complete working out on the paper to facilitate accurate workings for their maths problems.  However, we are aware that several students are still failing to heed this and as a result are making careless errors.

Non-verbal reasoning

This is also set at a high level for students.  We are working through as many varieties of questions as possible in the hour long lesson in addition to adding verbal reasoning and maths skills.

To an extent, practice with non-verbal will improve scores with students becoming accustomed to recognising specific tricks in the GL assesment.  To facilitate practice, in addition to resources that we are able to provide, we would also suggest the Bond 10 minute test books.

The next steps

We are attempting to do everything possible to support students with their progress towards the 11+ exam.  We have responded to the lockdown with the release of a free daily booster pack (accessible via the blue bar on the website).  The students who are completing these regularly are highlighting the impact of these as their maths skills and confidence with vocabulary are both improving rapidly.  If your child is not already completing these packs we would encourage you to add it to part of their daily school work wherever possible.
